What’s new what’s the same

The weather is still cold most of the days, but the snow is almost gone and the river is halfway ice free. It is the first time I saw the Bow river without ice covering it and I surprised to find out how shallow it is in the middle. It is very fast – coming from the Rocky mountains and quite wide, so I expected it to be more deep as well.

The moving in has not quite finished yet – we spent 3 evenings last week putting together some Ikea furniture that we had ordered for bedroom and den. Now that there are chests of drawers and bookshelves in place, we can unpack the remainder of the boxes and call it done for now. We are still using boxes for our coffee table and sofa end tables, so there is still some shopping to be done.

My cowgirl boots are now ready and we went to get them on Saturday. I am very proud of them and look forward to wearing them as often as possible. First I would have to wear them in, so that they stretch a bit and I don’t have to take them off every half an hour. This is the way it is supposed to be, I was told, since apparently the boots should not be loose in the beginning, otherwise they will be too big and fall off the more you use them.

We went to an exhibition opening on Saturday at the Gainsborough Gallery and saw some nice pictures, but did not buy anything this time. Let it settle a bit and if we still believe that we really have to have any of them, then we’ll see whether someone has beat us to them or if they are still there waiting for us.

We also entertained on Sunday – lunch with an Estonian couple who has been living in Calgary since 1996. They brought with them Estonian bread and salt. (Bread and salt is traditional house warming gifts in Estonia). I have missed the Estonian bread a lot here. I like salty rye bread not the fluffy white ones that are sold here. Our guests had discovered a Russian store that sells Estonian bread. The types were the same that I’d had at home, so we will definitely go there to see what else they have.

This week is a short week – Friday is the Good Friday and holiday here as well, so I’d have to get the work of 5 days done in 4. Busy-busy!
