Quite contrary to my normal habits, I have started going to the gym 3-4 times a week. I’m taking advantage of my husband being a fitness guru and practitioner and kind enough to give me a set of exercises to do as well. At first I wasn’t too enthusiastic – it was hard to motivate myself to go to a gym with a jetlag. But after going a few times, I discovered that it actually helps me feel better. I’m quite sure that if I had to go on my own, I wouldn’t make it quite so often, so I’m tagging myself to my husband every time he goes. Note to those who struggle with finding time to go to gym – find a friend who goes religiously come rain or snow and tag yourself to them.
At the moment we are still looking for our regular gym and keep trying different ones in the neighbourhood. Some give a free time, some a free week, we still have one to try close to us – YMCA, before we make a decision where we going to become regulars.
We have already found a yoga studio very close to where we live that offers a variety of different yoga practices. None of them are as demanding as the Ashtanga yoga we did at home, but the classes help us relax and stretch out. Plus we always feel better afterwards.
I was quite excited to have received our scales today with the express package that finally arrived. Alas, I cannot say that all the exercising has had any negative impact on the number on the scales. But the muscle ratio was up and the fat ratio was lower, so I guess I’m going in the right direction after all.
Hopefully all this exercise keeps me from gaining 7 kilos a year as I did when I last went to live in North America. That’s my humble goal for now – keep the same weight, but convert some fat into muscle instead.
