Eating in Edmonton

Local beer in Edmonton

Local beer in Edmonton

As you know eating and enjoying a bottle of wine or a pint, is our favourite pastime. We went looking for a good experience in Edmonton as well. We had barely walked a 100 meters when we were stopped by an inviting pub – Sherlock Holmes. It had a lovely interior, not too many guests for Saturday afternoon and we proceeded to have a pint of the local brew – Yellowhead. Since it tasted ok, we proceeded to have also our lunch there – my meatloaf was super salty, but husband’s chicken stew was very nice.

After having walked for about 4 hours in Edmonton, we stopped for dinner at the bar/bistro next door – Moriarty’s. Moriarty’s does local food. http://moriartysbistro.com/ We had lovely sheep cheese from a farm about 20km from Edmonton, excellent terrain as starters with some BC red wine – Zinfandel. For seconds we had crabcakes and goat cheese salad. Well, crabcakes weren’t local, but they tasted good, nevertheless. Bartender was nice and chatty and gave us a lot of info about local places and food. We also enjoyed some BC Sauvignon Blanc with the main course. The price was quite steep, though, and mainly because a healthy glass of wine cost $17.

Our final and the best find on the food area was the Indian restaurant on the 103rd street – Haweli http://www.haweli.ca The food was simply incredibly good. I don’t remember when it was last I had such good curry. The naan was soft and buttery, the lamb roganjosh was soft and nicely spiced and chicken tikka melted in the mouth. In spite of the large portions we managed to eat it all except rice and naan. With 2 bottles of beer each, the price was also very reasonable. The people were lovely, cook came by to greet us and the server had a good sense of humour. Definitely going back when next time in Edmonton.

For the final evening, we made our beerline to Sherlock Holmes again. Monday evening was quite busy, obviously we weren’t the only ones enjoying the atmosphere.
